The Art of Faceting

Aria Gems providing cutting and polishing gemstone training to Afghan women.

The Art of FacetingThe emerald is one of the most difficult gems to cut. Real emeralds have fractures, colour zones and inclusions. It is a delicate and brittle gemstone. Measuring between 7.5 and 8 on the industry standard Mohs scale of hardness, it is not a stone that any cutter can cut with precision. With these challenges in mind, Aria Gems employs some of the world’s best cutters. Our master-level faceters have over 20 years of experience each and our head gemstone faceter has cut over 9,000 gemstones in his career and personally inspects each gem that we cut.

Aria Gems faceters have cut some of the finest and rarest gems in the country and have become know for cutting rare untreated gems, such as the Panjshir Emerald. Since 2011, our faceters have travelled to Afghanistan to train local men and women in latest gem cutting techniques.

The Aria Gems cutting facility is located in Fargo, North Dakota.  Aria Gems’ stones are cut in-house in Fargo.
